Visiting with the Heifers

Every year Erlend selects a batch of heefers (heifers) from the latest crops of calves to raise up as future coos for his herd. He tries to maintain a closed herd and only buys in new bulls about every two or three years. He does this to keep out genetic problems and disease.

And so we work on taming the heefers so that they aren't wild when it comes time for us to handle them or shift them. Here's a few photos of me and Erlend visiting the heefers. As you can see they are pretty tame!! (But most of them do not like to be touched.)
